Two Childhoods: Breast cancer has been a part of my life since birth. My maternal grandmother died of it a few months after I was born. Family members and friends were either victims or survivors. Delta Medical Center decided to create a video to inspire awareness. But my inspiration came after we started shooting. My children’s maternal grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I don’t know if it was the irony or coincidence that surprised me. Instead of creating a video to promote awareness, I was working on a project about a disease that directly connected my childhood to my children’s in a way I couldn’t believe. So while they slept I stopped working on the video to look at my daughter sleeping and prayed a simply prayer. A prayer asking for a cure for her future, and imagined for a second someone watching this video would one day make that discovery.
