Pink Glove Dance Competition

Western Baptist Hospital

Paducah, KY

The week our hospital performed the Pink Glove Dance, my 51-year-old friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. As we prepared to dance, she awaited test results and surgery. During her harrowing week, she watched the original “Pink Glove Dance” to understand our project. She laughed and cried with special joy, knowing we were doing a similar dance for her and thousands like her. Her positive spirit became my personal expression of what Katy Perry calls a “Firework.”

Fast forward to our video. You’ll see several hospital colleagues who beat breast cancer, including our star Jane Viterisi from the hospital pharmacy. She “ignited the light” for 225 fellow employees, ranging from our CEO to custodians, nurses and techs. We clapped, we rocked, we even did the University of Kentucky’s fist-turning “John Wall dance,” all with Katy Perry’s vision for those with breast cancer. “After a hurricane comes a rainbow.”
